CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

Please ONLY telephone for an appointment.  NO walk-in appointments.

Only on the day appointments - NO advance bookings.

Anyone who has any respiratory symptoms or fever should NOT attend the surgery.

If you have an existing pre-booked appointment one of our reception staff will call you to see if we can resolve the issue by phone. If it is felt that a face-to-face appointment may be required they will arrange for a Doctor to call you.

All physiotherapy appointments will now be telephone appointments or video consultation.

Please use the self check-in screen in the surgery and take a seat in the waiting room or just take a seat in the waiting room if you are being seen in the Education Centre.  Hand sanitisers available in both buildings.

Please be assured this action has been taken for patient and staff safety and well-being.

Thank you for your cooperation.

CORONAVIRUS – TRAVEL

Please do NOT contact the surgery for holiday cancellation letters if you or your family are not unwell and are therefore cancelling the trip for reasons not of ill health.

We are not able to write a letter supporting a cancellation on any grounds other than someone being ill and unable to travel (e.g. if you have personally decided not to travel due to Covid-19 but you are well and the country is not listed by the FCO as a no travel zone).

Travellers are advised to read the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) Travel advice for the country they are travelling to, which included entry requirements and a link through to the National Travel Health Network and centre (NaTHNaC) Travel Health Pro website that provides specific travel health advice for countries.

If the FCO has advised not to travel to your planned destination you can make a claim directly to your insurer, please check their website for more information.

CORONAVIRUS / COVID-19

The new advice issued by the Chief Medical Officer is as follows:

Stay at home for 7 days if you have either:
• a high temperature
• a new continuous cough

Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you're staying at home.

Use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service if:
• you feel you cannot cope with your          symptoms at home

• your condition gets worse

• your symptoms do not get better after 7 days

Only call 111 if you cannot get help online.

Everyone is being reminded to follow Public Health England advice to:

•Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.

•Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.

•Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

•Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

More information can be found on the NHS website.

Are you experiencing increased anxiety or low mood due to Covid-19? Or were you already experiencing these symptoms and would like to be part of our research? If so, click on the link below:

Shielded Patients (High risk patients and Coronavirus)
The Government is going through the process of identifying high risk individuals that may be at risk of complications arising from the current Coronavirus Pandemic. Most of the these individuals have already received a letter advising them of their high-risk classification.
However, more patients are in the process of being identified and will be contacted over the coming days and weeks. Some will have been identified by Consultants working at the local hospitals. We are awaiting further guidance as to when GPs will be requested to assist in this process for any patients that slip through the system.
Below are some links to guidance that we have received for Asthma, COPD and certain Rheumatological conditions. More information can be found on the NHS 111 website.
If, having reviewed the guidance, you feel that you should be considered a 'High-risk' patient but have not received a letter please arrange a telephone consultation.

PRESCRIPTIONS

Please do NOT telephone the surgery to check whether your prescription is ready.

Due to high demand, routine prescription requests will now be available to collect after 2-3 days

Many thanks

We have some new clinicians working at the surgery.  In order for the receptionist to signpost you to the correct clinician, she will need to ask you some questions regarding your condition.  It would be greatly appreciated if you could co-operate to ensure you are booked with the best equipped clinician to deal with your condition.  Please see our signposting information below.  Thank you.

Rising Demand - Help us to help you

3 Before GP – How can you help us to help you?
The Royal College of GPs is running a campaign called '3 Before GP' which simply suggests that you ask yourself three simple questions before booking a GP appointment.   We would like to endorse this approach for all our patients.
3 Before GP
  1. Can I self-care?
  2. Can I use NHS Choices or similar reputable websites/resources?
  3. Can I seek advice/treatment via a pharmacist?
Research by the Primary Care Foundation in 2015 claimed that 27% of GP consultations were potentially avoidable.

The College hopes that this simple slogan will encourage patients to think hard about whether they need to see a GP – or if they can deal with the problem in a different way.  Workload has increased by 16% in general practice over the last seven years, but the number of GPs has not risen with demand.

GPs are now offering more consultations than ever before, with more than 1 million patients seen across the UK every day - but recent RCGP analysis shows that, by 2020, patients will be waiting for an appointment with a GP or practice nurse on 100 million occasions.

Please bear in mind that over the last 8 years we now look after 11% more patients while our overall workload at Audley Mills has risen 32%.   The NHS is struggling to meet demand at all levels, but if we all do our bit then we can look forward to a future where ‘free health care at the point of need’ is still available for our children and grand-children.

Thank you
The Doctors, Audley Mills Surgery

Blood tests - please note:

If you are attending for a blood test, please make sure you have plenty to drink beforehand.  This makes it much easier to find a vein!
Also children under the age of 16 should NOT be booked for blood tests online,  please phone the surgery to arrange the appropriate appointment.   Thank you.

Phlebotomy (blood tests) important note:  Please note that Phlebotomy appointments for adults can be booked through SystmOnline but these are ONLY for blood tests (where a doctor has previously given you a form) and are ONLY for adults and children over the age of 16. Please book blood tests for under 16 year olds by telephone.   Under 7 year olds will need an appointment at the hospital. Blood test appointments start from 8am most days (7am on Fridays).

Publication of GP NeT EARNINGs...
PUBLICATION OF GP NET EARNINGS
All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (eg average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.

Details are on the reports page HERE
NAMED GP NOTE...
NAMED GP
In line with NHS guidance all patients of this Practice have been allocated a named GP, but this does not mean that patients have to see that GP – they can choose to see any GP they wish, though we do recommend trying to stick to the same doctor for the same problem if possible as this aids continuity of care.
CAlling all carers...
CALLING ALL CARERS:
If you are a carer, or are being cared for, however old or young you are, with your permission we would like to record this information on your patient record as it may be helpful in the future. Please write in or drop off this information at reception. Thank-you.
Support for disabled people and their carers is available locally from Hamelin Trust - click here for more details.
